High Point is home to a very niche market for outdoor activities. At Oak Hollow Lake, we hold a variety of competitive rowing tournaments that bring in thousands of spectators every year. This number will grow in the next few years as improvements are made on the lake to attract bigger tournaments.

High Rock Lake

High Rock Lake is undoubtedly one of Davidson County’s finest treasures.  With more than 350 miles of shoreline dotted with weekend cottages as well as permanent homes, the lake offers activities year-round – boating, swimming, skiing, and fishing.

Boone's Cave Park

Boone’s Cave Park is located in western Davidson County. The park is 100 acres and offers hiking trails through a secluded rolling forest of mixed hardwoods reminiscent of the North Carolina Mountains.

Forty-six acres of the park is designated as a Natural Heritage Site and are host to a number of wildflowers normally only found in the Appalachian Mountains. The park has a picnic shelter with a great view of the Yadkin River. New steps provide access to the Yadkin River for fishing and canoeing.

Mayo River State Park

The Mayo River State Park consists of over 2,500 linear acres along the serene Mayo River corridor near Mayodan in Western Rockingham County. The park’s interim or “hub” facility, Mayo Mountain Access offers a visitor contact station, picnic pavilion, 1.8-mile and .5-mile hiking trails, restrooms, catch and release fishing pond, various special events and educational programs throughout the year.

The park’s property currently includes public access on the Mayo River as well as the beautiful Fall Creek Falls waterfall, located at the Deshazo Mill Access, 113 Deshazo Rd, Stoneville, NC. It’s a short walk the Falls trailhead from the parking area.

Dan River Adventures

Dan River Adventures is an outfitter for river adventures on the beautiful Dan River.  Located less than an hour from triad cities Greensboro, High Point and Winston Salem. It is also a short drive from Virginia Cities Martinsville and Danville.

Lake Reidsville

Lake Reidsville is a recreational lake and park that offers more than 750-acres of action-packed fun–from camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, hiking, picnicking and more. The lake is also a popular spot for anglers and fishing tournaments because of its abundance of big bass, crappie, and bream.

The park also includes a disc golf course and a one-mile mountain bike trail. Lake Reidsville park is a popular spot for bird watching and is a designated site on the North Carolina Birding Trail.

Get Back to Nature

Travelers looking to get back to nature and enjoy the outdoors at a slower pace can explore a variety of outdoor adventures from hiking trails in the 40,000-acre Uwharrie National Forest to a relaxing stroll along the newly developed Deep River Trail or across the Historic Pisgah Covered Bridge.

Golf enthusiasts can indulge in a round at one of a handful of beautiful, yet affordable public golf courses in the region; while disc golf lovers can catch a game at Creekside Park Disc Golf Course, an 18-hole championship disc golf course with a beginner’s loop, orienteering course, and three miles of scenic walking trails along Muddy Creek.

Travelers that prefer to relax out on the water can try their hand at fishing at Randleman Lake & Marina, showcasing 100 miles of beautiful shoreline.

Experience Heart-Pounding Thrills

Test your limits with adrenaline-pumping adventures including Kersey Valley, where visitors can fly through the trees enjoying spectacular scenic views on an aviation-themed zipline that is one of the largest closed-course ziplines in the country. High flyers can also take a turn on Kersey Valley’s high ropes course, test their skills at outdoor laser tag, or take on the escape room challenge.

Soar through the forest along Richland Creek and Mendenhall Waterfalls in the shadow of Purgatory Mountain on Richland Creek Zipline & Canopy Tour with 14 zip lines, three sky bridges, and one swinging bridge.

The North Carolina Zoo also offers a thrilling Air Hike ropes course featuring more than 20 obstacles in the air.

Haw River Trail

The Haw River Trail is part of the state-wide Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST) which allows hikers to travel across the state from Clingman’s Dome to Jockey’s Ridge. Approximately 40 miles will pass through Alamance County once complete. Cedarock Park

Cedarock Park is a 500-acre park located in southern Alamance County that enjoys more than 150,000 visitors annually. This expansive nature park was established in 1975 on the historic farm of John and Polly Garrett and continues to serve the citizens of Alamance County and visitors with a wide variety of outdoor facilities.

The park offers six miles of hiking trails, six miles of equestrian trails, two disc golf courses with a total of 36 holes for play, a footgolf course, a historical farm restored to the late 1800s time period, two fishing ponds, a picturesque waterfall over an old mill dam, picnic shelters and gazebos, a basketball court, a volleyball court, a playground, canoe and kayak rentals, camping, and ample field space for open play.

Lake Mackintosh Park & Marina

Lake Mackintosh Park & Marina covers over 1150 acres and has a shoreline of 61 miles. The lake is fed by two tributaries, the Greater Alamance and Little Alamance Creeks. These creeks have been the primary source of stocking fish for the lake.

Located just outside the city limits of Burlington on Huffman Mill Road, the lake not only caters to the fisherman and paddlers, but the park offers many features to make it an enjoyable place to recreate.  These features include kayak and rowboat rentals, picnic sites, playground, pier and bank fishing, clubhouse and a boat ramp.

Lake Hampton

Lake Hampton is 140 acres of water surrounded by three sides by a peaceful old-growth forest. Fish, paddle or relax on the water by kayak, canoe or boat and enjoy the beautiful scenery around you. Open 7 days of the week, hours vary.

Hyco Lake

Fishing has always been and will always be one of the favorite pastimes on Hyco Lake. Avid fishermen can be seen during all types of weather, all seasons, and at all times of the day and night. Fishing tournaments, many of which are fundraisers, are held throughout the year. For residents, fishing from the docks or the shorelines of their property is a favorite pastime.

Hyco Lake provides the perfect place for water activities from kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboards to jet skiing, water skiing, wave runners and other motorized water sports.

The camping area provides a unique opportunity for the general public to spend time on the lake. There are 65 RV campsites at a cost ranging from $30-$45 per night. Advance payment is required. The 16 primitive campsites are just $25 per night. Monthly rental rates are also available. An RV waste dump station and shared bathhouse are available for campers. Waterfront sites are $45/night. Vacationers who enjoy a more “homey” camping experience can rent one of eight cottages overlooking the lake. The cottages rent for $65-$75 per night and each feature a full-size bed, one or two bunk beds, a flat-screen with DirecTV, refrigerator, outdoor grill, picnic table, and an A/C & heating unit. Cottages do not have bathrooms or running water, but bathhouses are in close proximity. Pets are not allowed in the cabin area.

Cycling

Caswell County’s sparse rural population makes it a wonderful place to bicycle with little traffic congestion and much scenic beauty. Caswell County has more 18th and 19th-century dwellings and structures that any other county in the state. The homes range from the grandeur of 19th-century tobacco plantations to early settler log cabins and farm buildings that can be seen along all of the bicycle routes in the county. You’ll find that Caswell County automobile drivers will share the road with cyclists and usually move over to pass them in opposite lanes of traffic. Caswell County Arboretum

The Caswell Community Arboretum, a park for the purpose of exhibiting and studying trees and shrubs, was begun in 2004. The area is an all native arboretum with a focus on bio diversity and providing for wildlife.  The arboretum is located behind the Historic Courthouse in Downtown Yanceyville, and has a small walking track. It is the perfect space to take a moment to reconnect with nature, sit under the small pergola, or get a bit of walking in.
